Professor Jonathan Gardner
Victoria University of Wellington - Te Herenga Waka
As a Professor of marine biology at Victoria University of Wellington, Te Herenga Waka, Jonathan is multi-disciplinary researcher with a focus on coastal and deep-sea ocean management.
Previously, as a Post-Doctoral fellow at the Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada, Jonathan was involved with the Ocean Production Enhancement Network (OPEN) and Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS).
Jonathan was also a Visiting Professor in both Valdivia, Chile looking into native and invasive blue mussels, as well as in Wuhan, China looking at China’s freshwater biodiversity.
With a research focus on ecological and seascape genetics, Jonathan’s expertise guides the He Hono Moana team in their genetic connectivity work on pāua, mussels and koura.
