Moana Project part of the UNESCO Ocean Decade launch

The Moana Project is now part of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, as the programme was officially launched in Parliament on 8 June, World Oceans Day.

Moana Project Science Lead Dr. Joao de Souza was one of the three speakers invited to present on their ocean research initiatives in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Dr de Souza said of the event “It was a privilege to present the Moana Project alongside other such remarkable ocean research programmes.”

In addition to being included on the yet to be released UNESCO Te Tini a Tangaroa website, which will act as a portal to ocean science in Aotearoa New Zealand, the Moana Project has been endorsed by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission.

The Moana Project is eager to continue listening, learning and contributing to ocean knowledge and to be a part of this international ocean science collaboration.
