I have experience in Māori marine research, spanning aquaculture, fisheries, ecology, oral histories, mātauranga Māori and ecosystem-based management, and joined the Moana Project in 2019. Whakatōhea is the iwi research partner for the Moana project.

My responsibility in the project is the Whakatōhea case study. The aim of the case study is bringing together ocean mātauranga, ocean observing, ocean modelling and marine species connectivity research findings to inform iwi marine planning and decision-making. This will be in the form of a Moana plan and an Iwi Impact Assessment Framework, focusing on green-lipped mussels, one of our Whakatōhea taonga species.

I am a Mum to Hinemoana, and spend my spare time connecting with whānau and friends over a good kai. I also enjoy renovating and am in my first year following the maramataka. It is awesome!
